The Girl Who Doesn’t Smile
When an Ice Cream truck comes by to see the children,
She runs away and hides.
She stays deep within the shadows,
Looming in the dark.
She keeps her eye on the prize,
Even though there is nothing there.
Her hand reaches in front of her vision,
Trying to grasp the light of the sun.
Her hand is holding nothing,
But the fear of everyone else.
She feels forgotten,
Like someone left her at school on a rainy day.
She has no one,
To call her a friend or a loved one.
Her family is no where to be found,
Her choices are left on her shoulders,
They’re only bad.
She has no company,
That just makes me sad.
A girl who does not smile on a sunny day,
Would rather laugh when the rain comes to play.
She is a girl who has had her bad beginnings,
Never had a story to end.
The days went by,
One after another,
All in the end,
They were cast to the side.
She was once loved,
Eight years ago,
When her family was alive,
There was a father,
There was a mother,
There was a couple brothers too.
As she lived a life,
Full of peace and full of love,
She was a happy girl that smiled,
Everyday that year.
When she turned three,
Her loved ones died,
A lonely death,
That is no lie,
For it was one,
By one,
By one.
A year went by or maybe two,
All the love in her life was gone,
She wept cried,
But nothing kept her feeling safe and sound at night.
Now here she is all alone,
Without a family,
Without a home,
The only difference a girl can make,
Is a different ending,
Of the girl who doesn’t smile.
You are an incredible poet.
